About Our Guest

Caroline Doherty is a third-year MD-PhD student at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She was born and raised in California. Following high school, she pursued a career as a professional ballerina, having the opportunity to dance in Western Europe and on both coasts of the U.S. After retiring from ballet, she pursued academics, graduating from Georgetown University with a BS in Biochemistry. Her research interests at Georgetown included the elucidating the mechanism of action of nanomedicines delivering gene therapy. At Mayo, her PhD is in Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics and her thesis is focused on developing GBM tumor-targeted DNA aptamers. While in college she discovered the importance of campus ministry and served in leadership with Chi Alpha and briefly went on staff with them part-time after college. At Mayo, she served as a student leader in their CMDA chapter prior to serving as a Midwest Regional Student Representative.
