In letters written to his family back home he details in a candid way his medical experiences, family life, cultural observations, everyday living and spiritual victories and struggles until he and his family were forced to leave in 1977.

Since first joining SIM (an interdenominational mission organization) in 1966, Bob and Marion Bowers have worked in Liberia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Zambia and most recently in Bangladesh. As a surgeon, Bob’s involvement has been in the medical field while Marion’s work has been in the educational and music areas. They are currently retired and living in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania.
